Postal workers protest possible layoffs

September 27, 2011 (CHICAGO) (WLS) – U.S. postal workers staged a protest over possible layoffs Tuesday afternoon outside the Thompson Center.

Postal workers across the nation say they plan to rally in all congressional districts to save the U.S. postal service from faltering.

The agency has already announced it may end Saturday delivery and close more post offices across the country as a way to save millions.

The establishment of postal service is actually one of the few government-run institutions that is constitutional. However, times have changed and while we still have a need for delivering mail and packages, its time to investigate contracting the service out and possibly even making a profit. (Imagine that). I’m o.k. with no Saturday deliveries, but that’s only going to help a bit.

      Thanks for replying FbtW!

The postal service is a conglomeration of sloth.

The postal services offers reduced rates for pre-sorting.

Almost all mail is pre-sorted anymore. Pre-sorting began in the 80s and I am willing to guess more than a few postal big-wigs invested in it heavily and have gotten very rich off of it.

The postal service raises rates on non-pre-sorted mail to compensate for losses.

To me honest, the more I type, the more I think it should be discontinued completely. Get rid of all of them. They are so lazy in the city it is sickening to even have to deal with them.
