Take It Back: Marriage

(“Take It Back” is to be a series about things that have been stolen from us.)

On April 18, 1856, in Shawnee, Kansas, the first government issued marriage license was issued to John D. Skidmore and Arabella Z. Rice for their marriage which was established on February 24, 1856.

And thus marriage, one of the Seven Sacraments of The Church, was expropriated from The Church to the state, by the state itself.

The end resolve being this:

Failbook picture Facebook post claiming marrige for those unworthy

So to say what was said in the above post on Facebook is to reveal of one’s self a consummate lack of knowledge of the concept of marriage, as well as religion in general. Which I guess should be expected of someone who condones intercourse in a fecal trough.

The current marriage license fee is $60 in Cook County, Illinois, and is available to valid couples, and probably some invalid couples very soon, 18 and older.

Take it Back–I think you have a winner there, rjp. Post topics could keep you busy for months.
The Facebook comment was funny. Snarky and ignorant, but funny.

The courts have generally held that marriage is a fundamental right. (Now, all we need to do is to keep the definition of “marriage” in proper context). Sixty clams seems a little bit like prior restraint. I’m surprised nobody has challenged that, but then again, in Crook County, I’m not surprised nobody has challenged that.

The courts have generally held that marriage is a fundamental right.

How does a Sacrament of The Church become a fundamental right? Civil unions may be a fundamental right as they are a state creation, but Marriage belongs to The Churches and it should be The Churches who decide to whom they extend the right.

Correction needed in the first sentence: The first marriage license was issued in 1856.

I think the idea of applying for a government license (permission?) to be married is spooky.
